Melalui program Global Grant Irrigation for Rural Economy Development in Lampung No. GG1870720, Rotary mendukung pembangunan talud irigasi tersier sepanjang 3.000 meter:

The Flow of Hope: When Communities Lead, Rotary Supports

Under the hot sun of Central Lampung, the farmers of Seputih Raman District never stopped working. For them, the rice fields are more than just a livelihood—they are heritage, pride, and hope for future generations. But for years, one issue continued to hold them back: water.

“Planting season is not just about seeds and fertilizer,” said Mr. Sugeng, a farmer from Rama Dewa Village. “Without water, all our hard work could be lost overnight.”

Faced with this challenge, residents from four villages—Rama Dewa, Rukti Harjo, Rama Gunawan, and Rama Nirwana—came together. They formed farmers' groups, built makeshift water channels, and submitted proposal after proposal in the hope of building a proper irrigation system.

Their determination paid off. Rotary Club Lampung Raden Intan stepped in—not as saviors, but as catalysts—to support and strengthen the movement already started by the people.

Through the Global Grant Irrigation for Rural Economy Development in Lampung (No. GG1870720), Rotary supported the construction of tertiary irrigation channels spanning 3,000 meters:

  • 1,000 meters in Rama Dewa Village

  • 500 meters in Rukti Harjo Village

  • 500 meters in Rama Gunawan Village

  • 1,000 meters in Rama Nirwana Village

Letisia Lauw, SE, President of Rotary Club Lampung Raden Intan, personally handed over the completed irrigation infrastructure to the heads of the Water Users Associations (P3A) in each village.

“What’s truly inspiring about this project is the spirit of the people,” Letisia said. “They already had the dream and the plan—we simply helped accelerate the process.”

The initiative was supported by 14 village heads across Central Lampung and accompanied by the Mesuji Sekampung River Basin Agency (BBWSMS). The collaboration became a shining example of how local initiatives, when empowered, can lead to meaningful change.

For Mrs. Marni, a farmer from Rukti Harjo, the impact was immediate:

“We used to wait for rain just to plant. Now, we can manage the water ourselves. Life is more stable. Thank you, Rotary, for believing in us.”

Today, water flows not only through the new channels but also through the renewed confidence of the people: that true change begins from within—and when communities rise, there will always be hands ready to lift them higher.
