Langit cerah menaungi Stasiun Purwokerto siang itu, Rabu, 14 Mei 2025. Tepat pukul 11:55 WIB, kereta Taksaka No. 46 dari arah Jakarta tiba sesuai jadwal.

A Journey of Compassion at Purwokerto Station: A Wheelchair Donation from Japan Crosses Borders

The sky over Purwokerto Station was bright that afternoon, Wednesday, May 14, 2025. At exactly 11:55 AM, Taksaka Train No. 46 pulled in on schedule, its arrival marking more than just another stop along the way to Yogyakarta. On this particular day, the train carried not only passengers, but a special package—one that symbolized kindness, solidarity, and international friendship.

Inside one of the baggage cars was a wheelchair—simple in form, yet profound in meaning. It was a heartfelt donation from Rotarian Masamitsu Sasaki of the Rotary Club of Akita, Japan. His contribution reflects a deep commitment to service and a belief that compassion should travel beyond borders.

As the train came to a halt, a team from the Rotary Club of Purwokerto Satria stood ready. Led by Past President Djoko, they carefully received the wheelchair, ensuring a smooth handover. Supporting them in this meaningful act were Mr. Sutrisno, the Station Manager, and his deputy, Mr. Yudi, who facilitated the logistics of the delivery.

The occasion was further enriched by the presence of community leaders from various backgrounds. Mr. Mukti, a member of PUKAT (the Catholic Entrepreneurs Association), joined in solidarity, underscoring the spirit of collaboration. Assistant Governor Subiantoro, representing the Rotary Club of Purwokerto, also stood witness to this inspiring gesture of international goodwill.

This wheelchair is more than a piece of medical equipment. It is a symbol of Rotary’s enduring values—Service Above Self. From Akita to Purwokerto and onward to Yogyakarta, it carries with it the shared hopes of people who believe in empowering others, especially those whose mobility has been limited by physical barriers.

Soon, the wheelchair will reach its final destination—a person in need, whose life may be transformed by this act of generosity. Perhaps someone who has long been confined will now regain the freedom to move, the dignity to participate, and the hope to dream again.

In a world often divided by distance, culture, and circumstance, small acts like this remind us that humanity knows no borders. Through Rotary, hearts connect across oceans and differences are bridged with compassion.

And so, amid the bustle of Purwokerto Station, a quiet but powerful moment unfolded—one that marked a single step toward a more inclusive and caring world. A wheelchair, born from empathy, began a new journey of impact and hope.
