Ketika warga mulai bergerak, perubahan bukan lagi sekadar wacana—ia menjadi kenyataan.

When the Community Moves, Change Becomes Real

Rotary Club of Bekasi Raya Supports the Bekasi Zero Waste Program in RW 12 Griya Bintara Indah

On a bright morning, July 13, 2025, the residents of RW 12 Griya Bintara Indah in Bekasi gathered in their neighborhood yard—not just for a casual meet-up, but to welcome a new hope. It was the beginning of a journey toward a cleaner, more self-reliant, and more sustainable environment.

For many, household waste has always seemed like a problem too big to solve alone. But that day, a shift began. The Rotary Club of Bekasi Raya (RCBR) came not only with tangible support—90 organic waste buckets and a leaf-shredding machine—but with something deeper: a spirit of shared responsibility and belief in community action.

“In the near future, Bekasi can no longer depend on the Bantar Gebang landfill. Every neighborhood must take action and solve up to 80% of its own waste,” said Fransiskus Rasdi, member of RCBR, as he handed over the equipment to the local community representatives.

The leaf-shredding machine will be used to process green waste like dry leaves and branches, combined with household organic waste, into compost. This is not just about reducing waste—it’s about changing the mindset: waste is not a burden, but an opportunity.

Community leader Mr. Ferry expressed his appreciation:“With Rotary Club of Bekasi Raya’s support, we are optimistic that RW 12 can begin managing waste independently and sustainably. We thank you for this meaningful partnership and hope it continues.”

The event was also attended by Mr. Damarjati, head of RT 12, and Mrs. Ayu, a representative of the local women’s group (PKK), who both echoed the same message: change doesn’t happen alone—it takes a community.

This initiative is part of the Bekasi Zero Waste pilot project, aiming to make RW 12 a model for other residential areas in the city. RCBR hopes this program will inspire other neighborhoods to take similar action and help Bekasi reach its Zero Waste 2030 goal.

Rotary comes as a friend—not to replace the community, but to walk alongside it. As a catalyst—not to force change, but to spark it. Because at the heart of every transformation is the will of the people. And when people move together, change becomes real.
