Flowing Hope from the Mountains: A Story of Rotary and Rotaract Palembang’s Compassion

Amid the quiet valleys and winding rivers of Ulu Ogan District, Ogan Komering Ulu (OKU) Regency, lies a story of resilience and hope. Not long ago, a devastating flood swept through the region, leaving behind a trail of destruction and loss. The hardest-hit areas were three villages: Gunung Tiga, Ulak Lebar, and Kelumpang.

Yet from the heart of this crisis, a light of compassion began to shine.

Rotary Club Palembang, together with Rotaract Club Palembang, stepped in with empathy and purpose. They didn’t just bring aid—they brought a lasting solution: clean water installations for the villages of Gunung Tiga and Ulak Lebar. More than just an infrastructure project, it was a powerful gesture of humanitarian commitment.

The handover of the clean water systems was a moving moment. Villagers gathered with smiles that had long been hidden behind worry and hardship. For them, clean water is more than a basic need—it’s about dignity, health, and the future.

“This isn’t just about pipes and tanks,” said one of the residents. “It’s about care. It means we’re not alone.”

Through this initiative, Rotary and Rotaract Palembang have shown that humanity knows no boundaries. From the city to the most remote villages, the spirit of service continues to flow—just like the clean water now bringing life back to Gunung Tiga and Ulak Lebar.

Disasters may strike, but hope and solidarity will always find a way.
